Success Labs Leadership Coaching Series: Helping VOAGBR Better Evaluate Employee Performance

Becoming an employer of choice is one of the big goals for Volunteers of America Greater Baton Rouge, and Success Labs is excited to partner with the organization again to help make that a reality through the upcoming Leadership Coaching Series, which begins Oct. 19.VOAGBR is a nonprofit community organization that focuses on supporting abused and neglected children, at-risk youth, people living with developmental disabilities or chronic mental illness, the homeless and others in need. Success Labs-led teams have previously worked with the organization on several projects; for this session, teams will be developing their leadership competencies while helping identify a performance evaluation system better aligned to the organization’s needs.The Leadership Coaching Series is designed to challenge high-potential employees and new leaders to expand their leadership competencies as they offer innovative, strategic business solutions to a real-world problem faced by a community partner organization. Participants are divided into two teams and must work together to identify strategies the organization can use to achieve its goal.

Updating an Old System

VOAGBR assessed its current evaluation system, which it has used for seven years, and decided it was time for a change. The organization evaluates employees once a year, and the same evaluation tool is used for every staff member. “It can be redundant and hard to use,” says Rosanne Acampora, director of human resources for organization. “We want something that’s a better fit and more applicable to different kinds of positions and staff members.”Organizational leaders hope to establish a process that helps them better identify career paths for employees. “People who work here believe they have a chance to advance,” Acampora says. “We want a tool that better helps us to identify the people who are high-potential employees.” Employees themselves are ready for a change as well, she says.These efforts are aimed at supporting the organization’s goal to become an employer of choice in the area. By incorporating a new system, it hopes to better meet its clients’ needs, develop employees more effectively and stand out as an employer where people feel they have a future.Check back here this fall to read about what the Leadership Coaching Series participants came up.
