People Strategy with Gloria: Delegate to Develop

Did you know that delegation is a key component of strong leadership? Managers that have strong delegation skills are much more effective at developing people and building depth on their teams. Gloria is sharing five steps today that will help you implement a strong delegation process. The goal is to get great work done, while building your people and team strength along the way!

Our consultants are sharing People Strategy tips that are designed to help you Grow Leaders, Build Teams, and Drive Results at your organization. Today Gloria McConnell is diving into the competency of Delegation

STEP 1: Be clear while delegating.

Identify the task you are delegating, and the person you're delegating it to. Set up a meeting to describe the purpose of the assignment and establish expectations.

STEP 2: Don't skip the details.

Clearly define the parameters of the assignment, such as budget, timeline, level of authority, and limitations.

STEP 3: Don't leave your delegate high and dry.

Provide and communicate all of the necessary resources to support the task being completed.

STEP 4: Check in regularly.

Establish checkpoints ahead of time to monitor progress.

STEP 5: Give feedback.

Provide feedback throughout the process for the most effective outcome. Follow up after the task is completed to review goals, any trouble points, and talk about future projects/expectations.

Implementing a process like this both builds your skills as a leader, and helps your people perform at a higher level. Contact Gloria today to talk more about delegation, leadership and organizational development, and people strategy!
